ABOUT STUDENT AFFAIRS
Student affairs in the John H. Johnson School of Communications is concerned with the guidance of students through their academic programs and the counseling of students about problems that arise in their lives related to registration, financial aid, extra-curricular opportunities, or generally any problem that potentially impedes the student’s progress toward his or her degree.
Every student is assigned to a professional adviser in the Educational Advisory Center, located in Room 107 of the C.B. Powell Building. Students meet with their advisers to plan a graduation scheme, which lays out the courses needed by semester to complete the students’ chosen major concentrations. Students meet with their advisers to review each semester’s registration plan and at any time they need to discuss an academic problem.
The dean’s office (Rooms 203 a–s), supported by the department chairs, provides advice on issues that require special attention such as registration problems (errors in course codes, overrides, prerequisites, etc.), probation, suspension, disciplinary actions, and any issue requiring an official memorandum or letter from the School.
The Student Handbook of the John H. Johnson School of Communications contains information about academic affairs and student organizations as well as useful telephone numbers and profiles of the faculty.
