The District of Columbia Area Writing Project (DCAWP), a local site of the National Writing Project, is sponsored by Howard University School of Education and supported by the District of Columbia Public School System.  We seek to improve the writing of students in all grade levels in the District of Columbia metropolitan community.

OUR MISSION

To enrich and empower the lives of teachers and students through writing.  Although the Project does not subscribe to any "one right method" of teaching writing, it promotes respect for writing as a process which demands ample time, to draft, dialogue and reflect; and respect for the political power of writing that supports and encourages an anti-racist, pre-humanist perspective.
