The Howard University School of Education Early Learning Program (ELP), a campus-based early childhood facility licensed in the District of Columbia, was established to provide a sound educational environment for young children. ELP is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and is a member of the National Coalition for Campus Children's Centers (NCCCC). This unit consists of the Adele B. McQueen Preschool, the Howard University Kindergarten, and the Howard University Summer Day Camp. Each classroom reflects a community of learners bringing together children of various ages, interests and abilities. The curriculum evolves from the contributions of children, parents and teachers in an atmosphere of exchange and interaction. Rich classroom experiences and regularly scheduled field trips are designed to promote positive growth and development and to enhance learning. Cooperative projects are encouraged to build self confidence, foster cooperation, and to support learning that occurs when children are working in teams or in groups.
