Charles E. Lewis, Jr. joined the faculty of the School of Social in the fall of 2002 after receiving his Ph.D. in social policy analysis from Columbia University.  He received his B.A. in psychology from the College of New Rochelle, and his M.S.W. in clinical counseling from Clark Atlanta University.  Dr. Lewis is the immediate past president and a member of the board of directors of the Mental Health Association of the District of Columbia.  His research focuses on adolescent mental health prevention and treatment services.  He recently completed a research project on “Risk and Protective Factors among Adolescents in Montgomery County Public Housing.”  A licensed minister, one of his primary interests is the role of African American churches in the social welfare service delivery and social welfare policy.  Primary to returning to school to complete his doctorate, Dr. Lewis was a newspaper editor and public relations professional and maintains an interest in the influence of media and public opinion in the formation of social welfare policy.
