The School
of Social Work is dedicated to achieving excellence in professional education and research that
inform social work practice, social policy, and public engagement. Few social
work programs in the United States can claim as rich legacy and a heritage as
Howard’s. Our commitment to quality practice, scholarship, and leadership in
the social work profession all contribute to an atmosphere that supports the
realization of the potential in all of our faculty, staff and students.
The goals and objectives of
the School of Social Work emphasize preparation of advanced level MSW
professionals to practice at the local, national and international levels for
the solution of human problems and to become leaders in their communities. Our
doctoral graduates are prepared for the professoriate, research and leadership.
Both masters and doctoral graduates are expected to become architects of
liberating structures in communities that are empowered to serve the best
interests of all of their members.
My vision as Dean for the School of Social Work
is to:
· Recruit and
retain the best faculty and student talent available
· Provide high
quality, innovative, social work education with national and global perspectives
· Promote
cross-disciplinary faculty research collaborations and scholarship
· Build
school-community partnerships of significance with alumni
· Foster social
justice on behalf of diverse, vulnerable populations
· Affirm our
commitment to integrate The Black Perspective in our teaching, research
and service.
We welcome your interest and invite you to
continue to browse our website to learn more about our School and the
opportunities which could lead to a productive and meaningful social work
career.
