Renee Higginbotham-Brooks, Esq., a member since 1997 and vice chairwoman of the Board from July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2014, established the Fort Worth, Texas Law Office of Renee Higginbotham-Brooks in 1985. The firm specializes in public finance, public policy, and urban strategic planning. She has participated as Co-Bond Counsel and Underwriter’s Counsel in over 150 municipal bond issues totaling over $12 billion. She has served also as an advisor to several big city mayors and corporate clients.
She is the first female and the first African American appointed to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and served as its chairwoman for three years. She has also served on the Texas Department of Commerce Policy Board and the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center Board.
She earned a B.A. degree, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Howard University, and earned a J.D. degree from Georgetown University School of Law. Some of her numerous honors include: HU Distinguished Alumni Award; National Dental Association Excellence Award; NAACP Thurgood Marshall Award; Dallas Morning News Quest for Success Award; and the City of Fort Worth Outstanding Woman of the Year Award.
