The Program is a collaborative effort of Howard
University Hospital’s Office of International Healthcare
Services and the Maternal and Family Health
Administration of the DC Department of Health. It
enhances the ability of residents with limited English
proficiency to gain full access to available maternal and
family health services. Through its medical cultural
competency training, as well as its interpretation and
translation services, the Program aims to reduce cultural
and linguistic barriers to health care.
Moreover, it coordinates health education workshops
and health fairs to provide basic health screening and
information to communities that would not otherwise
have access to such services.
The Program works
closely with various cultural and immigrant community
centers and organizations to develop and implement
strategies aimed at improving access to health care
and information.
