University Counseling Service Training Program - Seminar

Psychoanalytic Seminar: A Working Psychoanalysis

Instructor: Mirta Lisso Carruthers

(mlcarruthers@howard.edu)

From September to April
Thursdays 2:00-4:30 hrs.

Psychoanalysis has its origins and main space of action in the consulting room. This is why its object of knowledge is the subjectivity of the individual, comprising the meaning and intention of the person's experience, including emotions, thoughts, desires, fantasies and actions.

This seminar examines the construction of human subjectivity during the developmental period and its impact on the psychology of the adult individual. It explores how thought, affect and action are not disembodied but arise from the nature of our bodies and bodily experience.

Seminar focuses on the application of these concepts to clinical work.
