Parking
and Public Transportation
Due
to the limited number of parking spaces on campus, the University
does not issue parking permits to first time in college students.
In addition, parking is very limited on local residential streets.
Therefore,
we urge first time in college students to leave their cars
at home. Public transportation (including Metrorail and
Metrobus) in the region is very good
and easily accessible to the members of the Howard Community.
Our shuttle buses also go to the subway.
Shuttle Service
Schedules may be obtained from
the Parking Office, Blackburn University Center (Information
Desk), dormitories, and the Internet:

and Frazier Halls). With a choice of three meal plans, you
are certain to find a plan that suits your lifestyle and schedule.
Dining Dollars* may also be added to any meal plan for added

More information is available about meal plans, hours of operation and dining locations.
Emergency Notification Information Briefing
An emergency is a situation that places a student or students at risk. It may include illness or harm, or
other traumatic incidents involving violence, or a missing student. Emergencies may also represent
circumstances out of the ordinary, unplanned or unexpected, involving hardships that threaten the health,
safety, and well-being of the students.
In light of the series of events that have transpired across the country at higher education institutions, the University has implemented an Emergency Notification System (AlertHU)
and your updated information is REQUIRED. Students may register for AlertHU via Bisonweb on the University's website.
Helpful Hints
- Don’t
buy anything in your hometown and transport it here, if it
can be bought here: (i.e. toiletries, linens, computers, personal
items, electronic equipment, etc.)
- Bring
only clothing for warm weather. Your winter clothing can be
shipped to you when you need them.
- Open
an account at a national bank so your parents and guardians
can access the account in your hometown. This will allow easy
deposits into your account that you can access.
- Avoid
signing up for a credit card! It will have you in debt that
you do not need.
- Bring
all of the letters and other documents you have received from
Howard up to the day you arrive.
