Schedule Overview

Welcome to Howard University 101-New Student Orientation. We are pleased that you made Howard University your school of choice. We are certain that you came here to be successful in achieving your career and life goals as demonstrated by your level of performance and academic achievements in high school. You can begin this progression towards success by attending all of the excellent mandatory sessions of the Orientation Program. There are also a number of social activities to help you get to know your classmates, and make lifelong friends.

Carefully review the schedule below to understand where and when you have to be. Especially note the morning sessions indicated as Mandatory. These sessions are Mandatory for Students only. You will receive information that is very critical to your effective and successful transition from high school or from another institution to Howard. Therefore, during the orientation period it is very important that you to attend each of these Mandatory sessions.

During the orientation period if you have any questions regarding the program, contact the Office of the Dean for Special Student Services at 202-238-2420, Suite 725, Howard Center, 2225 Georgia Avenue, NW.

Please note:

  • New students are to report to Cramton Auditorium each morning at 8:30 AM on Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20.
     
  • Please Note: Academic advising in all Schools and Colleges will begin Monday, August 18

The OIAE will explain the importance of assessment and evaluation at the University and how they relate to students' academic success. During their tenure at Howard, students will be asked to participate in a number of surveys and other assessment activities aimed at gathering student input about many areas of the University learning community.

Students will learn that the entrepreneurial mindset/spirit can be infused through any academic discipline or career choice. Students will also be exposed to entrepreneurs who have paved the way and Howard University student entrepreneurs that have excelled.

A panel discussion hosted by the Howard University Student Association with past student leaders and professors. Learn about the history of student mobilization at Howard University from those who lived it. Find out how to be active on campus and in the community by mobilizing for a greater cause. 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM Preventing Sexual Harassment
All members of the University community are expected to be aware of and abide by the Howard University Policy Against – Sexual Harassment and Gender Based Discrimination In Education Programs and Activities. This presentation will inform the students of what constitutes sexual harassment, why people may harass them, what they should do if they feel that have been the victims of sexual harassment and/or gender discrimination; what they should do, who they should contact or inform in the event that they are the victim of sexual harassment, sexual assault or gender discrimination. You will also be informed of what constitutes sexual harassing behaviors, what not to do and what their responsibility as Howard students should be. You will also be informed about the specific reporting mechanisms relative to reporting sexual harassment or discrimination when it involves students versus faculty and staff members. The goals are to prevent or reduce the incidence of potential sexual harassment through education and awareness.

M.E. Inc.: The Entrepreneurship Lifestyle. The ELI staff will promote an entrepreneurial lifestyle through the concept of “M.E., Inc.” M.E., Inc. is an interpretation of you as person in business form. We will teach students to present themselves as if they were a business entity. Your goals and path to those goals will be the business plan, your professional dress is your packaging, and the way you present yourself is your marketing. These and other key principles will be conveyed to students.
