The Campus Based Loans Office handles all campus-based Title IV, VII and Title VIII Campus Loans as well as Institutional Student Loans:
All borrowers of campus based loans disbursed from this office must first have approval from the Financial Aid and must have an Entrance Interview and Exit Interview before:
- If the student drops below half-time student status.
The Entrance Interview is a one-on-one counseling session between the first time loan borrower and a Campus Based Loan staff member.
Once the Campus Based Loan Office receive a disbursement roster from the Financial Aid, the staff member will contact the borrower to schedule an entrance interview (borrowers should make sure their correct email address, permanent address and telephone information is correctly reported to Enrollment Management.)
During the session, the borrower signs the promissory note and other pertinent documents and provides the University with reference information. The borrower is made aware of the following:
- The terms of the loan;
- The borrower's rights and responsibilities;
- The fact that the loan must be used for educational expenses;
- The fact that the loan must be repaid;
- The fact that the borrower must notify the school of any address, telephone or name changes.
In turn the staff member will disburse the loan, answer any questions and provide the borrower with:
- Copies of all documents;
- The name and address of the school to which the debt is owed;
- The name and address of the servicing/billing agent to whom communications should be sent.
The Exit Interview is a reiteration of the entrance interview only it is conducted at the end of a student's matriculation. The one-on-one counseling sessions is between the borrower and a Collections Department staff member, the contact person for the student until the loan is paid-in-full. Borrowers needing an exit interview may schedule one by contacting the office at (202)-806-2570.
