Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are my payment
options?
A. Howard University offers
three methods of payment:
- ALL CHARGES PAID IN FULL BY THE DUE DATE:
| Fall Semester |
August 1st |
| Spring Semester |
December 19th |
- The HOWARD UNIVERSITY DEFERRED PAYMENT PLAN is
available where deferrable charges are paid in two
installments such as tuition and certain fees.
Fifty percent (50%) of the tuition
and fees, along with total amount of housing and meals,
are due by August 1st for the Fall Semester and December
19th for the Spring Semester. The remaining amount
is due sixty (60) days after the regularly scheduled
last day of late registration.
Housing and Meal Charges are not deferrable charges. These costs MUST be
paid in full by the payment due date and prior to moving into the residence
halls.
There is a $50.00 deferred payment service charge charged for all accounts
not paid in full by the due date.
Students receiving Remission of Tuition, full tuition grants, or full tuition
scholarships must pay FEES, HOUSING AND MEAL charges by the payment due date
and prior to moving into the residence halls.
A late payment fee of $75.00 is assessed when payments are not received by
the due dates. Late payment fees will not exceed $150.00 per semester.
- THE HOWARD UNIVERSITY INSTALLMENT PLAN is
an interest-free, five or ten month installment plan
to pay tuition on
an annual basis. The first payment is due June
1st each year and payments MUST be made on time. Students
with outstanding balances are not eligible for this
plan. There is a $50.00 non-refundable service charge
to participate in the Installment Plan. For more information,
call
1-877-484-1526, or in the D.C. area, (202)-806-2616.
Q. How do I determine the
amount of my first deferred payment?
A. Authorized financial
aid is factored into the registration payment and,
per federal regulation, must be applied to tuition
and fees first. After application of financial aid,
one-half of remaining Tuition and Fee balance, along
with housing and meals, must be paid.
The following aid CANNOT be used in computing your registration
payment:
- Federal Work-Study (FWS)
- Howard University Student Employment (HUSEP)
- Assistantship
- Unauthorized Aid
- Parent Loan (PLUS)
- Private Loans and Scholarships
Q. Are students from outside the District
of Columbia charged different tuition and fee rates?
A. No, tuition varies by full-time/part-time,
undergraduate/graduate, and by school not by state.
