Student Accounts/Accounting Department
The Student Accounts Office is responsible for billing all currently enrolled students at Howard University as well as Third Party sponsors; ensuring the accuracy of charges on all student accounts and Third Party contracts; updating the tuition and fee schedule; making sure that student account transactions are accurate - including the posting of grants, scholarships and payments from all sources and the assessment of University charges and fees.
Student Accounts also monitors the timely disbursement of financial aid, scholarship and grant funds; administers the Howard University Installment Payment Plan; and, refunds excess funds to students and parents.
In addition, Student Accounts provides financial clearance for prospective graduates, former students returning and withdrawals; issues cap and gown authorizations for prospective graduates; investigates and resolves student account discrepancies and disputes; and counsels students concerning their student accounts.

Student Loans/Collection Department
The Campus Based Loan Office was established for the purpose of servicing Federal and Institutional student loans. The office is responsible for all Loan Disbursements, Loan Payments and Financial Clearances.
The Collection Department is responsible for the recovery of monies owed to Howard University by students no longer enrolled. This collective debt includes:
- Short-term Emergency Loans
- Long-term Emergency Loans
- Health Profession Student Loans (Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy)
- Loans for Disadvantage Students (LDS)
- Primary Care Loans (PCL)
- Nursing Student Loans
- Federal Perkins Student Loans
- Outstanding Student Account Balances
The Collection's Department staff consists of trained professionals who are available to discuss your financial difficulties and recommend alternative repayment options. All files are confidential and cannot be discussed with a third party without your written authorization.
