Note: The information below is a new requirement as of Fall 2004.
Beginning with the Fall 2004 semester, ALL DORMITORY RESIDENTS who would like TO CONNECT A COMPUTER TO THE UNIVERSITY NETWORK via the network connections in their rooms MUST have their machines CERTIFIED as NETWORK READY by Information Systems and Services (ISAS).
To avoid the presence and adverse impact of viruses, Trojan horses, and worm infections, the University must maintain as clean a network environment as possible. Towards this end, ISAS will provide software tools and assistance to all dormitory residents who want to access the University Network and whose machines meet the minimum connectivity standards found on the “Academic Computing Services PC Support Requirements Sheet.”
Specifically, ISAS will provide the following software at no charge:
- Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 1 for PCs
(This is the preferred operating system)
Service Pack 2 (AKA: Release Candidate 2) for Windows XP also available.
- Microsoft Windows 2000
- Symantec Antivirus - Version 8.1 (for Windows and the MAC)
Operating System upgrades for the MAC are not available and will not be provided.
There is a comprehensive list of additional software available which is posted on the Howard University Website at: http://www.howard.edu/technology/isas/softwaredistribution/extended/applications.htm
This additional software is available at the iLab to all students at no charge.
