Defragment Your Hard Drive

Microsoft Windows provides the Defragmentation utility to improve the speed and performance of your PC. It locates fragmented files and folders and puts the pieces in one place.

1. 

Click My Computer (on your desktop) or click Start > My Computer

 
2. 

Highlight the hard-drive (C:) and Right-Click the mouse
Select Properties

Select the Tools tab on the Properties menu

Click Defragment Now

Click Defragment to automatically run an analysis of your drive

The Defragmentation Tool will display the analysis and defragging process in real-time.

To view the Defragmentation Report, click View Report

An example of a Defragmentation Report
The report will include information on the amount and percentage of free space remaining on the drive.
