Changing Your FTP Password

Who should use this page?

The instructions on this page are directed toward those who maintain Web sites that use Web hosting services ISAS provides.

Adobe Contribute users should not change their password without first consulting with the University Webmaster (see contact information below).

What is impacted when I change my FTP password?

Desktop applications that have "remember my password" features will be impacted by the password change. The next time you launch these applications, you will need to give it the new password. Some applications will simply pop up a box that will ask you to type the new password. Others, such as Dreamweaver (see instructions), may require you to go into the application settings in order to change the password there.

Changing Your FTP Account Password

There are three ways to change your FTP account password:

  1. Enter your current FTP account's password >>
    If you know your current FTP account password you can easily change it.
  2. Use your HOWARDU login to reset your FTP account's password >>
    Your HOWARDU login is the same as what is used to log into your e-mail or to your computer.

How do I change a site's saved password in Dreamweaver?

  1. Go to the Site menu and click "Manage Sites". This may be in a different location depending on your version of Dreamweaver.
  2. In the list of sites, click the one you want to edit, then press the "Edit" button.
  3. Click the "Advanced" tab at the top of the window.
  4. In the list on the left, click "Remote Info".
  5. In the password box on the right, enter your new password.
  6. Click the "Test" button to make sure you can successfully connect again.
  7. If the test was successful, click the "OK" button and then the "Done" button.
  8. If the test was not successful please enter your password again.
    You may need to contact the University Webmaster if you are still unable to connect.
